A Smaller, More Powerful Battery Begins to Charge Devices

TOKYO—Companies are getting closer to replacing the battery that has led the consumer-electronics revolution over the past 30 years.

Solid-state batteries promise to be more compact and powerful than the conventional lithium-ion batteries found in consumer electronics today. In Japan, thousands of solid-state batteries are being churned out every month and several companies are aiming to enter into mass production as soon as this year.
