Australian calendar-marketing firm ECAL opens NYC office

One man’s “completely new marketing channel” is another man’s “entirely new way to be annoyed by ads.” But an Australian startup that’s trying to find a happy medium between the two has set up shop in New York, its first American office, along with a new American vice president.

ECAL is the company, and its new marketing channel is your digital calendar. The company makes and maintains a cloud platform where sports teams (or other customers with regular, ongoing events) can publish their schedule and augment it with promotions, customer loyalty programs, updates or any other message. Users subscribe to the tool via a widget, which opens them up to the messages in exchange for having all the games noted alongside their meetings and reminders.
